Baby Cogito: Episode II focuses on exploring various modes of pairing as strategies for structuring the tension that was documented in the previous episode. The project’s starting point was a reflection on fan imitation and obsession, as well as on how the striving for an ideal inevitably leads to mismatch and disappointment. The attempt to conform to the imaginary ideal shaped by this external perspective leads to its inevitable distortion. In this case, parody becomes the project’s method: it creates a pair in which the original and the copy strive to get closer, yet without any clear unity. Here, pairing functions as the simultaneous presence of two equivalent elements. Deliberately naive parody and mimicry represent not only forms of imitation but also ways of creating a double. The “cute” aesthetic in the project serves as a shell through which more complex affects are made visible: dissonance, self-revelation, and cringe. The sculptural experiments that form the basis of the project are arranged in pairs, each of which reflects a specific type of relationship between the elements. The second object in the pair always appears as a slightly different, failed version of the first, stuck in an attempt to match it. This failure becomes a structural principle, and the pairing in the project can be understood as a mechanism for fixing differences, where attention is focused not on the objects themselves but on the deviations between them. In this sense, the “spot the 10 differences” principle functions as a deliberate, radical simplification and a way of engaging with the viewer’s experience.
